Operation Thin Mint℠ (OTM) is a local Girl Scout service project that originated in San Diego in 2002 during the Girl Scout Cookie Program. With support from the community, Girl Scouts and their cookie customers send packages of America's favorite cookies and countless notes of support to veterans and deployed troops serving around the world in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa, Japan, Korea, and the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean.
The Girl Scout Cookie Program takes place across San Diego and Imperial counties from January to March each year. To learn more about how to participate or support your local cookie entrepreneurs, visit sdgirlscouts.org/cookies.
During the 2025 cookie program, Girl Scouts in San Diego and Imperial counties marketed more than 2 million packages of cookies and secured 130,783 packages of donated cookies for OTM, a service project that originated in San Diego in 2002 that shares Girl Scout Cookies with U.S. military personnel.
We will celebrate those successes with the Operation Thin Mint℠ Family Festival aboard the USS Midway Museum on Saturday, May 17. The event will welcome 1,500+ guests and commemorate 24 years and more than 4.3 million packages of OTM. Attendees can look forward to bustling community partner stations, the GSSD pop-up shop, concessions and picnics on the USS Midway’s flight deck, and an epic dance party to end the night.

Hope to see you aboard the USS Midway this year!
