Our 2024-28 Strategic Plan

Our North Star.

To guide us into the future, we thoughtfully developed a plan for how Girl Scouts San Diego will continue to have a positive impact for San Diego and Imperial counties. Here is our strategic vision and goals for the next three to five years. It is a roadmap to guide our organization as we continue to empower girls, build future leaders, and make a lasting impact in our community.

How we got here.

In developing this plan, we evaluated Girl Scout trends and demographic data, conducted more than 20 key stakeholder interviews, held listening sessions with volunteers, girls, and staff, and hosted multiple planning sessions with the senior management team, board of directors, and strategic planning committee. Thank you to everyone who leaned in to support this research!

Mission and Vision.

We are proud to continue serving the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.  

Our strategic vision is to be viewed and valued as the go-to partner for developing and elevating girl and women leaders in San Diego and Imperial counties. Beyond traditional leadership development, our relevant programs and experiences foster a sense of well-being in girls, so they are well-rounded individuals poised for success in life. 

Our four strategic initiatives:

Elevate inclusion and access to grow impact for girls in the region. toggle arrow

While we proudly serve more than 15,000 girls, we recognize that our member demographics do not align with the demographics of San Diego and Imperial counties. We are committed to closing this gap.

To do this, we will prioritize inclusion and access in our programming, partnerships, and recruitment strategies to serve more girls in our region, especially in communities where Girl Scouts is underrepresented. We will increase retention and engagement in our programs.

Enhance and leverage our partnerships with communities and organizations.  toggle arrow

Over the years, we have forged connections with local businesses, community organizations, and regional leaders. Now, we must strategically leverage and strengthen these relationships, so we can expand our reach and impact.

We will look to develop and leverage partnerships throughout our service area, identify opportunities in each of our program pillars (STEM, Entrepreneurship, Life Skills, and Outdoors), and seek out opportunities that would introduce Girl Scouting to diverse communities.

By providing more robust and relevant program opportunities for girls, we are developing their leadership skills and fostering a sense of well-being.

Support and develop our team of staff and volunteers to enhance the Girl Scout experience. toggle arrow

We recognize that passionate volunteers, coupled with talented, mission-driven staff, are at the cornerstone of our organization and the programs we offer. We are committed to providing training and development opportunities for both groups to enhance the Girl Scout Experience for our more than 24,000 girl and adult members.

We are closely evaluating our service unit structure and will implement leadership and engagement models and resources based on the needs of busy families and volunteers.

With a supportive framework in these areas, the goal is to grow membership and boost retention.

As a leadership organization for girls, we are equally committed to supporting our staff and volunteers in their own leadership development.

We have built incredible momentum over the last year and are on the road to recovery. Our final strategic initiative is focused on continuing to strengthen our organization and prepare it for the future by:

Diversifying revenue and growing membership
Establishing quality assurance processes and creating a long-term property strategic plan
Developing succession plans for leadership positions and enhancing board engagement, accountability, and diversity.

Girl Scouts San Diego has set big goals for the next five years, and as we move forward with the implementation of these strategic initiatives, we look forward to collaborating with our community of champions!
